Peggy began her art career in the Pacific Northwest where she studied with well-known marine artist, Leon BeRoth. Her love of the sea is mirrored in her plein air interpretations of the waterfront activity and seascapes of Puget Sound. “Driftwood, seaweed, shells, and an occasional fishing float—all arranged by nature is the most glorious kind of still life. I paint the sea as a still life in motion. It is both ever changing and dependably the same. I no longer live near the sea, but the years I spent painting its far-reaching, open vistas were good training for painting the vast openness of the southwestern landscape”.
Peggy now lives in New Mexico and focuses her attention full time on her art. She states that the clear New Mexico light together with the mosaic of cultures and rich traditions of the southwest motivate her to convey its beauty to others through her paintings.
Studying at The Art Masters Academy under Louis Maestes and Michelle Dunaway and later with Jan Keefer, and at workshops with many well-known artists, she now captures southwestern landscapes, people, and still lifes in a representational style. Peggy’s paintings are regularly accepted into juried exhibitions and have earned awards from “Honorable Mention” to “Best of Show.” Her work is included in numerous private and corporate art collections.
Peggy is a member of Oil Painters of America, Rio Grande Art Association, Southwest Studio Artists, and the Manzano Mountain Art Council. She also serves on a Selection Committee for the New Mexico Art in Public Places Program.
